BROWNING, Anna, a real daughter b. 1788 in Rhode Island died near Dexter in
1863. Her father John, a law maker in Rhode Island, served the entire
Revolutionary War as a minute man. Her grandfather Browning was a Governor
General in Rhode Island, under the English reign. At age 18 she married,
11-6-1806, to Paul Mumford age 36, at S. Kingston, Washington Co., Rhode
Island.
MUMFORD, Paul d. 1840 and is buried under a big oak tree on the farm near
Phelps burying ground. The farm is now owned by Dr. Preston Hickey of Ann
Arbor. Two granddaughters living in 1926 were Miss Emma Hoffstetter and Mrs.
Alfred Lucking. Frances Browning, daughter of Paul and Anna, b. 1815 in R.I.
d. 4-18-1906 Chelsea. She married first Creott DePuy and had a daughter,
Frances and a son, John. Married second John Schulth. Graves marked by
mound of stones.
