A note to the researcher: According to Mr. Elmer WURST, life-long resident of Pleasantview Township, the first cemetery in this area was the Ayr Church Cemetery, the remnants of which are still visible on private property in section 24 of Pleasantview Twp., on the south side of Brutus Road, 1/10 mile west of North Ayr Road. Shortly after the establishment of the Ayr Cemetery, a number of the Ayr Church burials were moved to the Ayr Cemetery and also to the Maple River Twp., Cemeteries. The church cemetery fell into disuse shorly after the newer Ayr Cemetery was established. The latest dated marker still on the church site is 1888. No evidence of the original log church building remains. There are still several burials on the Ayr Church site, however, only three are marked. A few field stones have been arranged in an upright posture to mark burials, but these are not engraved.
While there are approximately 100 known burials in the Ayr Cemetery, there are relatively few grave markers. It can be assumed that many graves may have been originally marked with wooden crosses. There are the vestiges of some field stones that were arranged in rectangles, now overgrown with sod and barely visible.
Additional information on unmarked burials at Ayr Cemetery is from the records and notes of Mr. Elmer WURST, Pleasantview Township supervisor from 1957 until 1988, and the Cemetery Information File of Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, MI.

AYR CEMETERY BURIALS
Sources compiled from:
16 Feb 2002... I've received some updated information regarding this cemetery from Maurice Eby, an avid researcher of the Ayr, Emmet Co., MI area. Here are his comments:
Based on these death years, the following statement in the introductory paragraph about the Ayr Cemetery is certainly misleading. “the church cemetery fell into disuse shortly after the newer cemetery was established’. The church cemetery took burials for at least 14 years after the township cemetery started.
Although John Boettger 1854-1934 is listed in the transcriptions, he is not listed in the complete burial list. I believe one of the other John Boettgers should have been him.
The first Burns baby should have parents, Patrick and Ellen. William is his brother.
The Julius Falk birth-death years are reversed.
May A Wiber is certainly Wibert. She was in a census.
Philo Ferguson is 1831-92 from death certificate.

Regarding the Old Ayr Church cemetery, John Mummert’s years are 1848-96. He was a Civil War Vet. His wife Louisa 1857-89 is certainly buried next to him without a stone. Lorena Noel 1885-93 was buried in the church cemetery according to her death certificate
