SCHENK
I'm a descendent of SCHENK's that settled in the Ann Arbor area of Michigan. Michael SCHENK was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea, Michigan. He probably was born in the 1850's or 1860's. Jake SCHENK was a brother to Michael SCHENK and may have resided around or in Ann Arbor itself. There still may be descendents living in that area. Jacob SCHENK (Senior) and his wife Elizabeth may be buried in that area as well. Also, a sister to Michael and Jake, Royena SCHENK married a Michael ICHELDINGER and it is believed that they too settled in that area. Help! I'm anxious to find any information on these long lost relatives and/or their descendents.

TOBIAS
Need documentation on the parents of Ezra A. TOBIAS (born 20 Jan 1801, near Bath, NY - died 22 Oct 1899, Baltimore Twp., Barry Co., MI). Family records give his parents' names as Daniel TOBIAS (supposedly killed by a bear) and Mercy FITCH. A family member wrote that, "He and his nine brothers were orphans by the time Ezra was eight. There was no money for shoes so Ezra went to school barefooted. In the winter he carried with him a long slab shingle. When his feet got too cold running through the snow he would stop and stand on the shingle to warm his numb toes. "Ezra's father was born in Scotland but came to America and fought against the British in the Revolutionary War. Ezra was born in 1801, in Seneca Co., New York. His mother died when he was three, his father five years later.
"As a teen-ager Ezra was a pathmaster on the Erie Canal. He led the horses that pulled the boats through the canal. When he was 21 he
married Amelia DAVIS, who died 5 Feb 1846 near Napoleon, Henry Co., OH. In 1830 the Tobias family, which by then included eight children, moved to Ashtabula County, Ohio." About 1853, Ezra and his second wife, Lura EDSON, moved to Baltimore Twp., Barry Co., MI, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Known surviving children by Amelia (some of whom lived in Calhoun, Jackson and Washtenaw Co., MI) were: Henry Lorenzo TOBIAS; Frederick C. TOBIAS; Joseph Carman TOBIAS; Betsey J TOBIAS; Ezra A. TOBIAS, Jr. and George TOBIAS. Known surviving children by Lura (some of whom lived in Calhoun, Jackson and Washtenaw Co., MI) were: Philura Amelia TOBIAS; Emeline Jane TOBIAS; Jason E. TOBIAS; William Otis TOBIAS; and Lillie V. TOBIAS
