MAYHEW (DE GARMO)
I am seeking any information regarding my paternal grandfather, HARRY L. MAYHEW (DE GARMO), and his family in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Harry (b.3/19/1883; d.11/1919), was the son of George F. MAYHEW and Alice E. MAYHEW (Hartshorn). He attended Ann Arbor H.S., from which he graduated in 1906, and attended the U. of Michigan for a short period. He took classes from a Professor Pattengill and a Mrs. Ruben Kempf while in high school. I know that his family corresponded with a Prof. Kelsey from the U. of Michigan. Sometime during his last years in high school Harry began using the name de Garmo, and this is the mystery that I am trying to solve. He used the de Garmo name on his passport, and assumed the name professionallly. He married my paternal grandmother in Germany in 1914, and remained in Germany during WWI. He died just prior to his return to the U.S. to begin a contract with the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York.
Alice MAYHEW, and at least two of her sisters, are buried in Forest Hill Cemetary in Ann Arbor. I have no information on George MAYHEW. I believe that Harry MAYHEW had one brother, William Franklin MAYHEW, and possibly a sister, Ruth Torrey MAYHEW. I have two addresses for Harry's family residences in Ann Arbor: 513 S. Division St., and, 507 East Ann St. My grandmother remained in Europe after Harry's death, and emigrated to this country with her second husband in 1941. My father had already moved here. Neither of them, to my knowledge, maintained any contact with Harry's family. I would appreciate any information about Harry MAYHEW, his
family or friends.

I am looking for information on a family by the name of MICHAEL or
MICHEL. All of the following names were residents of Northfield,
Washtenaw County between 1830 and 1840. After that, they may have all
moved. Eliza Lindi MICHAEL, Etha Linda MICHAEL, Almyra MICHAEL and Mary A. MICHAEL. I think Mary A. MICHAEL is the mother and she married a Sterry Lyon in 1840. Eliza and Etha were married the same day, Aug 2, 1837 by Hiram Rhodes, JP in Northfield. I think they are twins. Eliza married a J.C. DEXTER and Etha married a J.C. ASHTON. Finally Almyra married a Daniel THOMAS in 1831. Can anyone provide some information on these people?

Harry PFEIFFER would have been born in Missouri
between 1890 and 1900. He worked for the school
system in Ypsilanti, Mi. Didn't think he had
been married till I was at the Library in
Milan, Mo. last week. I read a piece in an old
paper where his sister had visited him and his
wife. He more than likely had children that
would like to know their Genealogy. He has a
first cousin that is still alive and said he
thought he was buried in Ypsilanti.

(Updated)Seeking Grace PHETTEPLACE, daughter of T. R. PHETTEPLACE and Rose MYRICK born 1878. My grandmother Grace PHETTEPLACE STEWART STEBBINS was born in Port Huron, May 18, 1878 to T.R. PHETTEPLACE and Rose MYRICK. Her mother died when she was very young. Her two brothers lived with her father in the Pinconning MI area, where it is believed they had a farm. At a young age an Aunt took her to live with her and after running away several times she was put in an orphanage. Later, a Minister from the Ann Arbor area took her to live with his family. Her first husband's name was STEWART, do not know date or year of marriage. When she was about 16, she came to the Detroit area to live, and married Henry LOY, my grandfather about 1900. There is some speculation that her first name was changed, but we have no information.
