January 1st - Good sledding, first rate the week past. Snow one foot deep. Thermometer 24 degrees in the morning 48 degrees at noon + 18 degrees at ten O clock P.M. The next morn 4 degrees Huron river high. The Mills all backwatered badly and have done very little business for a month. First high water, then high water and slush ice. The rain not froze over. Wheat .75 Flour - 4.00 Shorts 8:00 - stuff 10.00 per ton. Oak lumber 7.00 Poplar siding 8.00. Ind. Poplar 9.00 per thous. Poplar logs .50 per hun. Pop. $3.00. Family well. I went to Ann Arbor in the afternoon + Myself and wife spent the evening at Mr. Prudden Robert Geddes + wife + Mr. Colvin + wife there. Abraham Clawson staid all night with us.
2nd - Davis Leavenworth reports that they have grown 2159 barrels of Flour in Geddes Mill. For which they paid Robert + John Geddes eight cents per barrel rent. This is all the Flour they Ground this season. Thermometer -08 degrees at nine O clock P.M.
3rd - This morning thermomter -06 degrees below Zero.
Jan 1st - Huran Winslow + Elmira E. Coburn were married New Years eve by Mr. Thornton Knivevsalist(?) Preacher. They were married at Mr. Thornton Knivevsalist(?). No person present but Mr. Coburn, Salome Coburn, Mr. Parish + Mr. and Mrs Thornton. Mr Winslow is 26 years of age + Miss Coburn 24 years old.
11th - Sat night at nine O clock the thermometer was -10 degrees below, this morning -19 degrees below Zero at two O clock 20 degrees above.
11th - Lowell Flouring Mill was burnt down at night. No insurance. The fire was discovered about seven P.M.
17th - St Clair - Ann Arbor - flouring Mill was burnt down. The fire was discovered about Nine O Clock P.M. Insured for $10,000
23rd + 24th - James Geddes and his mother of Lenawee County visited here. They staid one night and until One O Clock next day And paid $100 in a Mortgage.

April 21st - Samuel + George Geddes of Franklin Co Pa arrived here from Marion Co Ohio.
April 30th Olivia Randall commenced teaching School at 120 per week
May 2nd - Smith Botsford left his fathers house without telling where he was going. He got on the Passenger train about ten O clock going west. He took $200 in money and left his note for the same payable in two years Smith was in his twenty second year May 12th. Smith Bostford returned having gone to Chicago, from thence around by the Lakes to Detroit.
May 7th - The Telegraph to day says that Caleb Clark is appointed Postmaster for Ann Arbor.
25th - Robert + John Geddes rented their Flouring Mill for noe year commencing the 20th day of July pending 1st of July 1850 to Emery O. Crittenton + theron bought for $700 quarterly in advance. Repairs to come out of the rent and Insurance + taxes.
July 4th - A very pleasant day. Theremometer 82 degrees at half past 12 O clock I attended Sawmill all day. Rachel + Julia Ette Terry called to see us and remained until the 7th when Julia went home with her father. Wheat .75 per Bu.
Aug 11th - A light crop of wheat this year. Wheat much shrunk. A great crop in May.

Sept 15th - Mrs. Rockwell died to day aged 74 or 75 years.

20th - Charles W. Lane of Ypsilanti died to day at four of the clock P.M. of inflammation of the Bowels. He was born Feb 16th, 1814. Myself and Wife were at the funeral November this year was a very pleasant month for the time of year. Lane age 35y, 9m, 4d.
Dec 8th - The first snow 4 inches deep this fall.
25th - Christmas Day Thermometer 1 degree below Zero in the morning 8 degrees above at Noon + 8 degrees below at 9 O clock at Night a cold day.
27th - My son John is Seven years old to day and weighs 38 #s gained 3 ¾ #s the last year. He was pestered with the Ague considerable in the Fall months. Sarah weighs 30 ½ #s gained 3 ¼ #s the last year. Health middling. Wife weighs 93 #s Health but middling the past year. My own weight 161#s Health good. Salome Coburn weighs 134 #s with her Cloak on. David T. McCollum of Ann Arbor was 159 days traveling from Independence in Missourie to Sutter fort in Califormia in the Pioneer line in his m-ss of six persons four died.
