On Tuesday, 18 Jul 2000, 8 members of the Emmet County Genealogical Society met on an overcast evening to transcribe the cemetery for Friendship Township located on Stutsmanville Road in the mid-northern section of Emmet County. Some preliminary work had been done and an announcement had gone out to all members to participate in this new activity. We gathered at the LDS Church parking lot at 6pm and car-pooled to our destination. Upon arriving, we broke into two-person teams, decided which section each of us wanted to do, and set about reading the stones. As the evening wore on, two major tombstone discoveries were made: Mort NEFF, the former host of the television program, "Michigan Outdoors", and Ella Jane PETOSKEY, Ottawa Princess and grand-daughter of Chief Pet-o-se-ga.
Those helping with the transcription efforts were: Denise Frederick, Earlyne Achelpohl, Jocelyn Malak, Vicki Stark, Teresa Huerta, Diane Powers, Tom Sage, and Marcia Maves.
After completing the reading, it was decided that pictures were in order and then, FOOD (we had, after all, worked up a tremendous appetite!)
